Book Age of the King (The Echoes Saga: Book 6) Review :

Very pleased I happened across this fantasy series! I'm always looking for new sci-fi and fantasy books to tear through and get me away from the screens. Also helps we had named our son Asher, so when I saw that was a main character's name, I had to give it a try!Overall this is a great saga and well worth a read. Give it a try if you like the genre! Now a bit of a rant for those who know the books...I will say, this is not my favorite book so far in the saga. It may be just me, but a lot of the characters are unlikable. I'll only spoil character names and not any real plot points. The "new generation" are a bit off to me. Vighon is great, awesome heroes journey! Not an Inara fan, and I see big things in her future, so that may not be good. She's very high and mighty, or to use modern terms, stunning and brave. In a self righteous millennial type of way (ps I am a millennial).Maybe it's intentional, but I actually want the villains to win this round. I like them as characters more than most of the "heroes".But my biggest gripe is with how a few characters are treated. It's one thing to give characters an arc, but this one changes their personalities completely. Nathaniel and Gideon specifically act like completely different people. Give them a journey, but they still need to be who they are. Not go from strong individuals to whiney babies.I found myself skimming their sections just to get to Asher, Vighon and the villain sections. When they were some of my favorites in previous books. Also, Hadavad was straight punked, and he seems like an after-thought. Which is sad.Anyway, maybe it's just me, but it seems like Quintrell forgot who some of his characters were in this one. We'll see where it goes from here...Frankly, I'd give this book 3 stars, it's average, but the series is good enough to where I couldn't rate less than 4.Still read it, you may think differently.Cheers:)
I came to the saga at book 4 but really feel the middle trilogy was quite understandable and a stand alone experience. My favorite characters are the current generation, with Vighon being my favorite. Surely Inara and Vighon are destined to unite creating a powerful bond and a new dynasty, breaking the old strictures, after all she is half human, her dragon will understand and accept her destiny as a Dragon Queen of Illian. After all how can new dragons be born if all the dragons are bonded and forbidden mating? The children of Vighon and Inara will create a new line of riders, guarding the realm. Anyway, they are not my books to write, I will wait patiently (sot of) for the books to roll out, thanks Phillip for the marvelous storytelling.
